You Are the Future.

Where You Bank DOES Matter.

Whether you join the team at Notre Dame Federal Credit Union or you join as a member, you matter. It is our employees and our members that make it possible to fulfill our mission.

When you bank with us, you become a member-owner. Others answer to stockholders, we answer to you! Our profits are reinvested in saving you money and giving back to the communities where you live, work and play.

Together, we are empowered to enrich our lives and better the communities where we live, work and serve.

1941

It started when two professors met at a tavern on Notre Dame Avenue to share a pint.

As Lou Buckley & John Sheehan talked, they realized they were both searching for a way to save money.

Times were tough during the Great Depression.
They weren’t interested in a traditional bank.
They wanted something different.

Soon they had an idea. If they couldn’t find what they were looking for – they would create it.

When Lou Buckley and John Sheehan put their idea in to action, the University of Notre Dame Federal Credit Union was born.

The Credit Union opened for Business in Room 329 of the Administration Building.

The room held a wooden desk, two rickety chairs and not much else, but 30 members joined that day.

They, too, were excited about the idea of something different – a financial institution that puts people over profit.

Soon after, the University of Notre Dame Federal Credit Union issued its very first loan: $100 to a secretary in the Alumni Office.

our mission then and our mission now remains the same

We believe that by providing our members with access to a full array of financial resources, combined with honest advice and education, we can provide them with financial empowerment to enrich their lives and contribute to the betterment of the communities we serve.

A Full-Service Financial Institution

"We were founded to serve our members, and as such, we are owned and controlled by the members we serve. It’s the only reason we exist, and we work tirelessly to fulfill that purpose, and will continue to do so in the years to come."

fulfilling our mission

As a mission-based financial institution we strive to enhance our communities in three primary areas: financial education, social responsibility, and charitable giving.

At NDFCU, we believe it is imperative that we carry out our mission through service, leadership and action. That’s why you’ll see our strategic focus throughout all of our efforts – from the policies that guide our credit union to the educational opportunities we provide for our members to the community efforts we support.

We want to empower our employees, our members, and our communities with the resources they need to better their lives and support their families.

Financial Education

Financial literacy has a material impact on families as they try to balance their budget, buy a home, fund their childrens’ education and plan for retirement. At NDFCU, we provide a variety of educational opportunities as well as honest advice. With access to financial tools and the knowledge to put those tools to work, our members are empowered to take charge of their future.

Social Responsibility

When we say we are a financial institution that puts people first, then we are also committing to leadership, service and advocacy in social responsibility. These efforts require an internal and external focus – the way we support our employees and the way we show up in our community.

Charitable Giving

Giving is one of the most important ways we can pledge our support as a not-for-profit financial cooperative. At Notre Dame FCU we focus much of our support on local parishes, schools, clubs, and other non-profit organizations.

We also want to provide our members with the opportunity to support organizations that matter to them. The Elevate Fundraising program allows members to give back to the non-profit organization of their choice.
