Spring 2021 Newsletter

Posted on Apr 13, 2021

Dear Fellow Owners,

Spring is finally here again, and we are beginning to see light at the end of the long COVID tunnel. Like you, I am looking forward to a brighter Spring and a more optimistic balance in 2021. Despite all these very trying headwinds, your credit union continues to move forward in helping as many of our stakeholders as possible. Here are just two quick examples.

By mid-summer, we will open a new branch in Whiting, Indiana, which is in the Northwest part of Lake County, just east of Chicago. This will be a full-service branch, occupying more than 3,600 square feet. This effort is being led by our current Chief Retail Officer, John Wilkening, who will take on the additional title of Market President. Under John’s leadership, our Lake County team will hit the ground running in bringing much-needed personalized service and decision-making to this area.

I am also proud to share we have increased our minimum wage this year to $16/hour. Our staff is truly the ‘best of the best’ in each of the communities we serve, consistently delivering award-winning service, whether our lobbies are open or closed. I cannot say enough to each and every one of my Notre Dame FCU partners (employees), I am a very blessed person to be working with so many wonderful people.

I would like to ask you a favor. If you happen to have relationships with other credit unions and banks, PLEASE reach out and strongly encourage them to follow this lead. So many more people in our community deserve to be paid fairly and with the significant profits currently being made by so many financial institutions, there is really no excuse for them not to step up and do the right thing.

It is always tough to lead, especially in uncertain times. However, that is when leadership matters the most. Be proud that your credit union continues to lead by example in these and so many other areas. We are certainly not perfect, but nobody is. What matters is that we keep trying to make things better for as many people as we can. Already in 2021, we have saved our members over $1 Million with our unique programs—and we’ve only just begun!

Notre Dame FCU was formed in 1941, so this year marks our 80th anniversary. As an 80-year young organization, we are only getting started. Continue to use us as your primary financial institution and don’t be shy to promote us to your friends and family. We will do our best not to let you down!
