He prayed for all work done in the branch to be carried out fairly, and he asked that it emanate forth, accomplishing great good. Bishop McClory also publicly thanked Notre Dame Federal Credit Union for their assistance in helping the Diocese of Gary through the Paycheck Protection Program process. The Diocese of Gary is a Select Employer Group of Notre Dame FCU, which gives all parishioners and their families access to credit union membership.

Notre Dame FCU speakers included Notre Dame FCU’s President/CEO Tom Gryp and Chief Retail Officer/Northwest Indiana Market President John Wilkening. Wilkening, a Whiting High School graduate and Lake County resident, opened the ceremony by speaking to the credit union’s plans to teach financial literacy to his Lake County neighbors. He said, “Our mission is to abolish poverty. A generation of Lake County folks will now be some of the savviest financial literacy folks in the country. We will educate them to make financially sound decisions and avoid common financial pitfalls many of us have fallen victim to.”

Notre Dame FCU President and CEO Tom Gryp spoke about the credit union’s mission for financial empowerment, its basis in Catholic social teaching, and how it puts people before profit. Gryp said, “We are all mortal, but our professional mortality is even more finite. Our basis in Catholic social teaching is a road map on how to be a successful business and at the same time help people. We strive to be financially sustainable and to give back as much as we can to our members, partners, and the communities we serve.”

The ceremony concluded with Senior Commercial Loan Officer, Jesse Hunt, presenting a donation for $1,000 to Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Gary.
