Board of Directors Nominees
During the Annual Meeting, the election of four members of the Board of Directors will be conducted. The Board of Directors’ Nominating Committee has recommended the following persons to fill the vacancies on the board:
Kareemah Fowler
Kareemah Fowler joined the South Bend Community School Corporation (SBCSC) in 2019 as Chief Financial Officer where her most visible achievement was the drafting, touring, and passing of the 2020 Referendum which allowed $220 million to be directed toward improving the educational reality of South Bend’s children.
In early 2021, Kareemah was promoted to her current post as Assistant Superintendent of Business and Finance, where she oversees a combined annual budget of over $400 million and manages capital assets totalling $1 billion. She continues to direct the efficient use of funds towards overcoming all the challenges brought on and exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic: mitigating learning loss, updating building infrastructure for the COVID era, and tending to the mental & emotional state of South Bend’s student population.
Prior to her work at the SBCSC, Kareemah became the first minority elected to a full-time executive office in St. Joseph County in 2015 by winning the race to become the City of South Bend’s 22nd City Clerk where, among many other things, she served a pivotal role in the city receiving the “Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award” three years in a row.
An experienced entrepreneur and public servant, she has managed over 800 million dollars in tax assessment revenues in her former role as the Compliance Officer in the St. Joseph County Assessor’s Office. Clerk Fowler is also a Level-2 Assessor/Appraiser. Rooted in community, she is a Bethel College alumna, a recent graduate and Board Member of the prestigious Indiana Emerging Leaders Project, an Indiana Election delegate, a 2017 American Council of Young Political Leaders Delegate, a graduate of the Michigan’s Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Program Class XLI, and currently serves on various state and local boards and commissions.
Jerry G. Langley
Originally from Knoxville, Tennessee, Jerry attended the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Illinois Chicago Circle, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in in quantitative methods. He received his Master of Business Administration from Northwestern University and did postgraduate work in accounting at DePaul University, earning his CPA certificate in 1975.
Jerry’s extensive career background includes a Senior Vice President role at American National Bank and Trust’s International Banking Department, as well as, Vice President – Global System Finance at the McDonald’s Corporation.
After leaving the corporate world, Jerry pursued his interest in teaching and joined the faculty at the Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame. He taught both undergraduate and graduate coursework, including courses in commercial banking and financial management. Jerry retired in 2018 and is currently Emeritus Teaching Professor.
Jerry is currently Board Chair of the Notre Dame Federal Credit Union, the Board Chair of Volunteers of America, and serves on the board of Building Tomorrow, a nonprofit based in Indianapolis that builds primary schools in rural Uganda. He is a CPA and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Maureen “Mo” Miller
Mo is currently the Chief Financial Officer at Irish Realty Group, where her focus is on the financial strength of the four entities encompassed within this group. Prior to this role, Mo has held an extensive career in finance, including as Chief Financial Officer & Secretary Treasurer for Charles S. Hayes, Inc. and as Interim Chief Executive Officer at Holy Cross Village at Notre Dame.
Mo holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Indiana University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame. She is a CPA and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Indiana CPA Society.
In addition to her role on the board of Notre Dame Federal Credit Union, Mo is a board member at Holy Cross Village at Notre Dame and Triangle Homeowners Association, as well as, a committee member with Trinity Health Systems/St. Joseph Hospital Secret Sisters Society.
Fr. Mark Thesing
Fr. Mark Thesing, C.S.C. is the Administrator of Holy Cross House, a long term care facility for the priests and brothers of the United States Province of Holy Cross. He was ordained a Holy Cross priest in 1986. He earned three degrees from Notre Dame, B.S. in Mathematics, Master of Divinity, and MBA. He pursued Ph.D. studies in Strategic Management at University North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Fr. Mark has taught at both the high school and college level, most recently Business Ethics to Notre Dame undergraduates. Fr. Mark served as Provincial Steward for eight years with responsibility for multiple budgets, oversight of investment portfolios and managed the finances for the renovation and addition to Holy Cross House. From 2002-2008, he served as rector of Keenan Hall. In 2008 he was promoted to Business Manager for Student Affairs. From 2011 until 2018, he served as Director of Finance and Administration at the Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame. He served as chaplain for Notre Dame football for 12 seasons.
Currently, he serves the men of Duncan where he lives. On weekends he assists in local parishes. During his free time Fr. Mark enjoys photography, cooking, family gatherings and trips back to Florida where he grew up.
