Board of Directors Nominees
During the Annual Meeting, the election of four members of the Board of Directors will be conducted. The Board of Directors' Nominating Committee has recommended the following persons to fill the vacancies on the board:
Sam Centellas was born in Santa Cruz, Bolivia and came to the States in the 1st grade. He studied Engineering and Communications at Western Michigan University and later received his Master of Education degree in College Student Affairs Leadership from Grand Valley State University. Sam is currently the Executive Director of La Casa de Amistad, a Latino/Immigrant focused non-profit community center serving northern Indiana and Southwest Michigan.
Sam’s involvements range from economic development, to hazing prevention, and leadership development of college students and community organizing. Sam was appointed by the Mayor of South Bend as a Commissioner to the Housing Authority and to the Diversity Utilization Board helping develop minority and women-owned businesses and served on the steering committee for the West Side Main streets project by Mayor Pete Buttigieg, a precursor to the City’s Smart Streets initiative.
Sam has served on the Board of Directors of Notre Dame Federal Credit Union since 2018. He also currently serves on the Community Advisory Board of Junior League, and is a Trustee with his Fraternity Education Foundation.
Mark Neal is a Principal with Bradley Company, the largest commercial real estate solutions provider in Northern Indiana and Western Michigan, providing executive leadership and strategy guidance.
Mark has led a distinguished career in the public and private sectors. He previously served as Deputy Mayor of South Bend during Mayor Pete Buttigieg’s deployment to Afghanistan during 2014. He also served as South Bend’s City Controller.
Prior to joining the Buttigieg administration, Mark led his own executive and financial management consulting firm investing and advising in early stage ventures within the healthcare IT industry. Previously he served as the vice president and chief financial officer for Press Ganey Associates, Inc., the nation’s largest provider of patient satisfaction and quality improvement services after serving more than 25 years in other financial management and leadership positions in the private, public and not-forprofit sectors in Indiana, Washington, D.C and Europe.
He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC), President of the South Bend Board of Parks Commissioners, Supervisory Commitee of Notre Dame Federal Credit Union, Dean’s Advisory Board of Leighton School of Business at Indiana University South Bend and the YMCA of Greater Michiana.
Lou Pierce is the founder and President of Big Idea Company, LLC, a public relations and marketing firm based in Mishawaka, Indiana, specializing in brand and reputation management, public relations, advertising and e-media.
Lou’s career began in the mailroom while attending college at the University of Notre Dame. He grew from there and has a portfolio that includes work aired on PBS, CNN and NBC, as well as numerous overseas news channels. His responsibilities throughout his career have included being responsible for programming, public relations, advertising, events, public service, working with FCC attorneys and executive level leadership and management of the television and radio news operations.
Lou has received more than 500 professional awards, including Nineteen Emmy nominations, six Emmys, International Monitor Awards, ADDYs, Telly’s, New York Film Festivals, the Associated Press, the NBC television network, the Indiana Broadcasters Association and the national Gabriel Awards. He has served on the Board of Directors of Notre Dame Federal Credit Union since 2014.
Katharine “Kate” Williams
Born and raised in South Bend, Kate holds a bachelor’s degree in Humanistic Studies from Saint Mary’s College and a J.D. from Tulane University School of Law in New Orleans. She happily returned to South Bend in 2013 and enjoys being a part of the continued revitalization of the region.
A licensed attorney since 2014, Kate spent six years as the Executive Administrator to the St. Joseph County Community Corrections Advisory Board and helped develop criminal justice pilot projects with the goal of reducing incarceration, addressing the underlying causes of criminal behavior and promoting community safety. After leaving Community Corrections, Kate worked with Indiana Legal Services, Inc., providing free civil legal representation to qualifying clients and worked as a part-time Public Defender. In 2021 Kate will be joining the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney.
